Etiquette for Support Sundays

Etiquette for Support Sundays

Confidentiality & Safety

  • First and foremost, “What is shared in the group, stays in the group.”
  • Respect the privacy of each patient and caregiver.
  • YOU make the decision to share or not to share personal and medical information.
  • Personal information will not be videotaped or shared outside the meeting.
  • We are not doctors nor do we offer medical advice, diagnosis, or treatments.
  • Share feelings and experiences, but not advice. Each person has a range of needs. Some may want to share feelings and experiences while others are looking for advice. If you are not seeking advice, it is okay to let us know that you just need to vent and would not like advice at this time.
  • Accept each other without making judgments.
  • Meetings that are either via zoom or in-person are never recorded to protect patient privacy. Doctor/specialist/expert information sessions may be recorded as they do not pertain to an individual health situation.

Respect:

  • Be mindful of others; engage in active listening during patient/caregiver sharing.
  • Try to join the Zoom call on time to avoid any disruption during the meeting.
  • If you are not speaking, please mute your microphone.
  • Maintain courteous and respectful language.
  • Respect others while they are talking/sharing; avoid interrupting others.
  • Limit over-sharing when sharing your story. Give everyone the opportunity to share.
  • Focus on support; avoid offering medical advice.
  • Silence all devices.
  • Always be honest.
  • Stay present. Avoid multitasking.
  • When we offer or receive suggestions, REMEMBER WE ARE ZEBRAS — what works for me may not work for someone else.

Tech Tips:

  • The best screen view on a computer is “gallery view.” The button is at the top right of the screen.  (Gallery view may not be an option on a mobile device.)
  • To mute/unmute yourself, the microphone button is at the bottom left of the screen. Please mute yourself when you are not talking to avoid any distracting background noise.
  • To turn the video on/off, the camera button is at the bottom left of the screen. (We prefer video on so we can see each other’s faces. Come as you are — no need to worry about your appearance!)
